Shed a little light!

photo courtesy of the city of Boston website
So with the turkey leftovers dwindling, Black Friday already passed, what can put us more in the spirit of the Holiday season but the upcoming tree lightings in Boston".
This year’s Copley Square Tree Lighting will be on Wednesday, November 29, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The lighting will feature a choir, band and caroling. Head on over to Parrish Cafe on Boylston afterwards. Parrish is known for its signature sandwiches by well known chefs throughout Boston. Affordable, trendy and delicious.
The official tree-lighting of the city of Boston will happen on Thursday, November 30th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Boston Common. This is Boston's 65th tree lighting and the 35th consecutive year that the tree is given as a gift from the citizens of Nova Scotia for Boston's aid during the Halifax Ship disaster in 1917.
The tree is a 50 year old 42-ft high White Spruce. There will be entertainment from the Nutcracker, Boston Children's Chorus and many others.
Stop by the lighting and then head to Todd English's piz place, Figs, on Charles Street after for a little slice of heaven. Some of the best gourmet pizza I have ever tasted and a romantic date spot as well!

Where to spend Thanksgiving?
Dear Megan,
My husband and I would like to stay in a B&B for 2 days that serves Thankgiving dinner in the Boston area. Can you help us?
Elsie
Dear Elsie,
I found a wonderful place that is quintesential New England without the madness in Plymouth. The Publick House in Sturbrige, MA hosts a Thanksgiving meal for $48 a person. I think you will be pleased with Sturbridge. It has a similar feel to Plymouth with reenactments and and with Old Sturbridge Village to explore. I would make your reservations as soon as possible though.

South Boston Open Studios

photo courtesy of Robin Kimball, resident artist at the Distillery
Maybe its because I don't have an artistic bone in my body, so I truly appreciate those that do, but I love going to the Open Studios that the various neighborhoods in Boston have throughout the year. It is great to see up and coming artists showing off their talent in an intimate setting such as their own studios.
I always feel like I am being invited in to look at something personal. Maybe it is the voyeuristic aspect that makes it enticing. Usually the open studios are in great locations such as old wharehouses or parts of neighborhoods you didn't even know existed.
This weekend stroll around the distillery in South Boston and duck in and out of the various artist studios displaying many different mediums. Who knows what you will find!
Open 12-5 both Saturday, Nov. 4th and Sunday Nov. 5th, located at 516 East Second St., South Boston, MA.
