Not only is the one and only Tim Reynolds in NH on Thursday September 13th, but he is in the tiniest and best venue in the state - Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry. My heart is heaving...I have two tickets and can't go!!!! Please all that can - go...go .......GOOOOO!

Our lives are just full of circles if we ever can remove our shells and venture into a new one once in a while. And so it was for me and a friend last week visiting a wine tasting at Moulton's Market in Amherst Village. I hadn't been to Moulton's since the late 80s and to my surprise, the store wreaked of small town success thanks to new ownership. What used to be a store of convenience now boasts a wall of wine choices, local produce, killer deli and a lovely wine tasting to greet its traffic every Thursday night from 4-7pm. Starting again today is the shop's infamous soup bar, boasting 10 soups a day, and its own special soupline for inquiries - 603-673-4663(GOOD).... [Try the packed-full-of-clams-bacon-potatoes-in-perfect-light-cream-broth Chowdah!]

The just-right sized shop pays tribute to our local growers and entrepreneurs, providing them with much shelf space and praise. It's deli bustles, and even if it's just beer you want, come get it. And needing much mention is the owner's desire to expand its organic food, as well as allergy free food - focusing on staple items and things for on-the-go - Gluten Free items will probably hit the shelves first. So don't hit the steering wheel and curse the guy in front of you for missing your turn into Shaw's - just keep on going and dive into Moulton's again - you will love all the surprises inside! [website soon to come as well!]

Twins Smokeshop celebrates its 10th Anniversary this Sunday from 12-6pm in huge fashion. Since its opening in 1997, it has been drawing in the biggest cigar aficionados and now it's time to celebrate all that hard work with BBQ, live music and wine! Thought you were just going in to buy the best Cuban or the Never-Let-You-Down Ashton, look again and spot the Malbec staring at you in the corner, or the Green Mountain coffee wafting overhead, then go get yourself some BBQ!
Tickets including cigar are $45, and tickets for BBQ are only $25! Jeff Pitchell and Texas Flood will be jammin', while door prizes are named and fingers are licked. Oh, did I mention it's BYOB - so fill the cooler and off you go!

You just know this is my favorite time of year - when you can feel the cold mornings under your feet and al fresco dining in the warmed evening...love it. It also happens to be the time of year when there is so much going on all over this state...it's like NH tries to celebrate the coming of autumn with fests and feasts. So here goes...
10. If you like tape and paper...
9. If you like piglets, ox pulls and fry dough......a MUST
8. If you care about Downs...an annual must
7. If you've got a thing for the Scottish...

6. If you like Frost-y evenings...
5. If you have High Hopes...
4. If you love ellis folk...
3. If you love dave's friend tim who can rip like none other...
2. If you enjoy menopause?!...
and
1. If you like to run your dogs...
[I'm thinking that was sort of a strange list?!]

OK, so I have to remind you one last time that Merrimack, NH's annual Cardboard Boat Race, to benefit the town library, is being held at Wasserman Park Saturday September 8th from 10am-4pm. Starting at 11 in the morning, continuous live entertainment, raffles, face painting, sand castle contests and a book sale will keep the entire family afloat [ha ha!] for the day.
September 3, 2007

Thursday September 6th, the Etz Hayim Synagogue in Derry, NH has figured out how to raise money for its building fund - raffle off Red Sox Championship Series Tickets! Brilliant! The winner of the raffle will get two front row seats in the center of the visitor's dugout for the first game of the Red Sox vs. ? Championship Series. For a measly $25 each, or 5 for $100, you can buy yourself a chance to witness their 2007 victory [no I am not being presumptuous] [Photo courtesy of NY Times]
Contact Laurie Medrek, Treasurer 603-432-9352 or email at Medrke9352@aol.com for this incredible opportunity.
(In the event the Red Sox do not make the playoffs, the winning ticket will receive $500 - still not too shabby!)

Had to post this now, and may re-post as a reminder for next week, but for anyone interested in a challenge, you need to hoarde the duct tape, cardboard and paint and start building now!
Merrimack, NH's annual Cardboard Boat Race, to benefit the town library, is being held at Wasserman Park Saturday September 8th from 10am-4pm. Starting at 11 in the morning, continuous live entertainment, raffles, face painting, sand castle contests and a book sale will keep the entire family afloat [ha ha!] for the day.
And there is no excuse this year for not having time to build a boat, the festival is offering a Same Day Sailor package of materials for the person[s] who wants to go and build in haste from 10am-1pm. This year's theme is At the Movies and all boats will be built with movies in mind. Come sail the SS Minow, The Enterprise or the Shaggy DA to victory!

Free up your Sundays and make it a job to get to The Hollis Flea Market! My weekends have been so busy this summer, that I keep forgetting it's time to shop, but as that fall air moves in, it's like the purest sign to get over to Hollis, carrying several empty large sturdy totes - to be filled of course! [Photo courtesy of Hollis Flea Market]
Open at a cool 6am, do not think that vendors are still setting up - I swear they must sleep there. And no, you will not look silly pulling a wagon to be filled, this place has it all. Two hundred year old antiques, infinite Pez dispensers, Dead bootlegs and even new clothing?! Coffee is always brewing and popcorn popping, so bring the kids, give them another hot dog to buy yourself more time and shop for every room in your house, and every person on your Christmas list! See you Sunday!

It's almost like Festivus! If Keene, New Hampshire has been on the list of 'places to see'. then now is the time to book your travel. Saturday September 1st marks Keene's Art in the Park Festival, as well as, the Keene Music Festival - music and art for miles [well, at least many yards!]. [Photo Courtesy KAA]
The Colony Mill & Marketplace plays host to art and many dining and shopping options, and across the street in Ashuelot River Park, the Keene Art Association offers its major annual fund raising event. Art in the Park on Labor Day weekend attracts over eighty artists and thousands of buyers and browsers. The proceeds from this event represents a large portion of the Associations Scholarship Fund.
If you go...
Check out some Cool Jewels, visit a gorgeous farm, and catch some theater!

I just had some New Hampshire corn and I can't tell you how sweet it was. And for some reason it took nothing for those plump kernels to fall off the ear and into our wanting mouths. As I was putting the left overs in my salsa tonight, I was thinking maybe it was time to bring the boys to a corn maze. I have always wanted an ice cream cone at Beech Hill Farm in Hopkinton, NH - and now I can do that and run through a corn maze - maybe you'll put it on your calendar and do the same?!

Three different corn mazes at Beech Hill Farm & Ice Cream Barn are open from 11am-8pm in September. Each maze has a different theme and scavenger hunt which makes Beech Hill's mazes the place to play. Along with corn comes 75 flavors of homemade ice cream, garden center, animal tracking activites and on site bakery. This 9th generation family farm has made a living on showing visitors why New Hampshire is so special.
Beech Hill is just about 5 miles from downtown Concord, don't forget to check out the Capitol shows, some out of this world art, and dinner in Mexico.

Some things just seem too good to be true, and this is one of those things. Cancel your Saturday plans and get to Jake's Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Sweet Shop this Saturday August, 25th from 2pm-midnight and gorge on ice cream to help raise money for CHaD [Children's Hospital at Dartmouth].
A first annual offering, this one looks like it will be here to stay. With prizes being awarded to both kids and adults, and all entry fees donated directly to CHaD, I am thinking it's going to be quite difficult to even get in the parking lot!

Just when you thought you would never, ever go on another blind date, I am thinking this event may help change your mind!
This Friday August 24th, the Squam Lake Natural Science Center is offering an evening out...in the dark! This nearly two hour adventure will teach you to explore the natural world by touch and hearing, and allow you to see through the nocturnal animal's eyes. This is a wonderful family adventure just before school begins, or like I said, maybe the perfect blind date! Reservations and advance payment are required so call today...603-968-7194.
While up in and around Holderness be sure to know you are right near the original Common Man - the best Common Man, as well as the Coe House and the Corner House Inn [where they have live music this night by celtic band Odd Men Out!] - quintessential New Hampshire charm at your fingertips.
And hey why stop there, many favorite camping spots are nearby, so you can even make a weekend of it! We just got home from the base of the White Mountains and let me tell you that summer's end is a show stopper. Cool, crisp mornings, warm days and breezy evenings are a constant.

What are the chances that the Rib Fest falls on the very weekend we leave for North Carolina!? This is the one event that tells my kids that June is officially here, that summer is right around the bend...even more so than the end of school. Waking up this morning, the boys and I were talking about how exciting it was not to have to get ready for the bus, and of course this comes next..."Now we can get ready for the Rib Fest!" I knew it was the weekend we left, and I avoided all other inquiries about when it was, because I couldn't deal with the heartache and tears. Quickly I blurted out, "For some crazy reason the Rib Fest is this weekend, WHEN WE'LL BE ON THE BEACH IN NORTH CAROLINA WITH ALL YOUR COUSINS CATCHING GHOST CRABS." I waited and watched...no response, just glazing over eyes, and then they said in unison, "When are we leaving for North Carolina?"

Let me know how it was this year!

[Seems like I just wrote about this!] Open up the trunk, find those leather chaps, spider web jumpsuits and leopard print skull caps...June 9th-17th marks Laconia's 84th Annual Motorcycle Week! Despite the obvious, that this event is for bikers, despair none, because there is nothing obvious about this infamous NH event! In my veteran opinion, Motorcycle Week is much more a people watching scene than a search for the 'best hog' venue. So try and blend in with some black, leather or tattoos and join the thousands that show up for biker fun! Prepare for bikes, chrome, crowds, lines and even some old school bar room brawls!

"I'm going to pull out my hair next week if we don't find some things for Cameron and Emma and Makayla and... to do..." Look no further moms of vacationing youngsters, New Hampshire is jammed packed that there won't be enough time for all you want to do! Take a looksee at 12 great choices....

I guess when you think of Christmas time in NH, you would transcend to the quaint towns of Bethlehem or Lincoln, NH where the evergreens glisten with new snow, sleigh bells literally ring and carrolers are a dime a dozen. But think again, and realize that our teeny tiny coastline offers many holiday treats. The snow may be more moist, but the cobbled streets and town squares of Portsmouth or New Castle beckon the Dickens and the Kris Kringles. If you haven't been to the coast in the winter, put it on your calendar, and maybe hit these three notable events...

The Friends of the Nashua Symphony announced December 2nd and 3rd for its annual Holiday House Tour. Four of Nashua's prominent homes dress to the nines for the holiday - and I don't mean a fake tree with blinking lights and a plastic blow up Santa on the lawn - this kind of magic is straight out of Martha Stewart! Lights, trees, topiaries, sparkle, garland, holly and mistletoe...every where you look. Start the season off this year with this Home tour!

Nothing ushers in the Holiday season [stop denying it, we are in the Holiday season!] quite like music. November sets a much decorated stage for giving thanks and reflecting on how grateful we are. And as we roll into the month many set aside for giving, what better way to relax and think great thoughts, while listening to a diverse selection of live music. Check out my Sweet 6 for November.

Chances are you're still planning on traveling about this weekend hoping for the last glances of southern New Hampshire's foliage, which there is plenty left to see! So, on your way, or way through, make Keene, NH an absolute visit as this Saturday, October 21st, marks the 15th year of the greatest jack-o-lantern show on earth.
Back in 1992, Monadnock area residents turned out in droves with jack-o-lanterns in hand. They set the first-ever world record with 1,628 lit jack-o-lanterns. The Keene Pumpkin Festival was born. And to tell the tale of its growth, the record was set in 2003 at 28,952 jack-o-lanterns lit in one place at one time. I am telling you, pictures do not do this event justice.

I wanted to give you some time to plan ahead now, so that for those who are empowered to do so, can raise funds for two causes close to my heart. Even if you don't raise funds, register to walk for awareness!
October 14th marks the Annual Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome in Concord, NH. Last year was the Walk's biggest turnout, and with each year more awareness and education is the result of the Buddy Walk.
And October 15th marks the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk in the towns of Nashua, Manchester, Laconia, Concord, North Conway, Peterborough, Dover and Exeter. If you think taking the kids is out of place, think again, these kinds of walks are the best way to raise your kids. With so many towns taking part, there is no reason not to fit this in! Post your photos to the Your Photos site and share the joy or giving with all of us!

Columbus Day weekend marks the 17th Annual Great Pumpkin Fest in Milford, NH. Come and witness the transformation of a lush village green into a sea of orange! Milford's Main Street Community truly puts forth a community wide effort with this event. Bring the family and pick out your pumpkins to carve, witness your first pumpkin catapult, make a scarecrow, walk the haunted trail, watch a magician or listen to live music. Vist vendors, crafters and farmers alike, rain or shine! And if you've never seen a 1,000 pound pumpkin before, here's your chance! See you there!

As we can probably bid a final farewell to summer and all its offerings [the last of my Impatiens are laying limp and the sunflowers have collapsed], we can at least wake in the cool crisp air of autumn, replenish the yard with colorful mums and feel great knowing that it is Fair season!
This weekend, September 29th-October 2nd marks the 130th annual Deerfield Fair in Deerfield, NH. There is nothing lacking at this fair, kid and adult rides, sausage carts, french fries, funnel cakes, chili, pizza and ice cream. Crafters, artisans, famous products from TV's best commericals [I will never forget the man slicing through the Coke can with his Ginsu and then slicing right through a beefy red tomato - WOW! - my mother bought one and still uses it!], live music, tractor pulls, oxen pulls, horse shows, piglets, gigantic vegetables, showcase flowers and fire trucks. The list does not end. As I stated last year, the worst thing you can do is leave the house spontaneously! PLEASE do yourself a favor and leave at the crack of dawn or just before the gates close. The miles of traffic barely crawl to the gates if you arrive around noon time for lunch. Plus, you can get there when the roosters crow and mow down a donut the size of your head....can't wait! See you there for sure!
September 21, 2006
Well, for some reason I will be in Vermont this very eventful NH weekend, but I wanted to be sure that you all knew about many cool cool things going on around this great granite state....Here's five I frequent...

You WILL tote something home, and you will need all the help you can get! Friday and Saturday, September 22nd and 23rd!
September 18, 2006
This Indian Summer we're having up here in NH [it's 84 right now!] mayjust hang around long enough for this weekend's big event - the High Hopes Foundation of NH is holding its 19th Annual Balloon Fest this weekend September 22-24th at the Anheuser Busch Factory in Merrimack, NH.
This is definitely a family draw as you can expect a Climbing Wall, Bounce House, Food Concessions, Live Entertainment, Raffles, Crafts and Novelties for sale, Hay Rides, Giant Slide Balloon Rides, Face Painting and possibly even Bungee jumping! OH wait, not to mention tens and tens of magnificent hot air ballooms!
So come support the High Hopes Foundation whose only goal is to grant wishes for chronically or terminally ill children of NH.

31 Years of World Championship Mud Bowl, Hog Coliseum
I have never made this infamous NH mud bowl, but I do hear of it from manykinds of people, all remarking on the synchronized mud swimming and cheerleader competitions. I imagine you could probably join in the fun for this kind of thing as well...if someone goes, please post some photos on Your Photos within ExploreNewEngland.com....
And for the Cleaner, More Thrifty Folk...
Town-Wide Yard Sale, Plymouth - town-wide!
September 9, 9am-3pm
The Plymouth Area Community Closet (PACC) is a non-profit group helping provide emergency funds, food, clothing and support in the Plymouth, NH area. There will be over 100 yard sale locations throughout the town of Plymouth. On the day of the event we will be selling $2.00 maps showing all the locations. Proceeds of the location map registrations and map sales will go to the PACC.
Here I am again! This weekend is another favorite event of mine and many...the Hampton Beach Seafood Fest happening September 8-10!
New Hampshire's known for its Antique Alley, and its sister antique route of 101A. But it's also known for some fantastic shows in smaller towns. And this Saturday, September 9th, is your chance to hit two in neighboring towns! In the quaint Main Street community of Milford, NH, drop in to the 47th Annual Antique Show and Sale and in Amherst, NH, the 11th annual Antiques on the Green Show and Sale! I will see you there!
September 6, 2006
So much is going on this weekend so check often as I post things sporadically over the next couple of days for this weekend's event listings! Don't miss Laconia, NH's 5th Annual Multicultural Market Day on Saturday Septemtber 9th from 10am-7pm.
A FREE, all day event that celebrates diversity is nothing to miss. Set at the Belknap Mill and Rotary park, go and enjoy ethnic and cultural food, children's area, animals, entertainment, music, concerts, exhibits social services, and all kinds of other fun.
You've got to see this to believe it! Right here in my hometown of Merrimack, NH, is the 10th Annual Cardboard Boat Festival at Wasserman Park on Lake Naticook. Happening this Saturday, September 9th from 10am-4pm, you can come support a fantastic town library and go home with some unique memories, possibly a raffle item and definitely a belly ache from laughter! I swear, the boats are made entirely of cardboard - in fact, it's not too late to enter a boat yourself if this is your kind of thing!

[Photos courtesy of Merrimack Public Library]
The first Library Festival was held in 1996 and featured crafters and demonstrations, adult and children's activities, vendors, food and a very brave fleet of 14 homemade cardboard boats. The Cardboard Boat fest has certainly grown and changed since then, however, the focus of the day remains watching to see whether the boats made entirely of cardboard can make it around the 150 yard course!
Expect a fantastic used book sale, great raffles, face painting, lots of food, children's sand castle building contest, and of course, the infamous boat race! Non-stop entertainment starts at 11 AM so pack a blanket or bring some chairs and make it a full day down on the Lake. All proceeds from the Festival benefit the Library Development Fund, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to raise money for equipment and furnishings for the new library. If you go, cheer on the Watt Family boat - they've sure to go further than last year before sinking...I mean, before winning!

Since I was a kid, Labor Day was that long and exciting weekend that marked the end of carefree summer days, and the beginning of much anticipated school days [Yes, I was a school geek. OK, still am.]. The Youth Athletic Association where I grew up used to hold a Labor Day Weekend carnival that followed an elaborate town parade. My mother will never forget the year when I had to march in my pop warner cheerleading SWEATER when it was about 85 degrees [I know, me a cheerleader...some friends still don't believe me]! Labor Day has meant BBQs, get-togethers, carnivals, parades and excitement for me, and now as an adult it is no different. Here are MANY MANY Labor Day options in New Hampshire for you and me!

Don't ask me where July went, but August means one of my favorite fairs, and it starts THIS weekend! The 73rd Annual League of NH Craftsmen Fair will be held August 5th-13th at the Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury from 10AM to 5 PM daily, rain or shine!

[Photo courtesy of League of NH Craftsmen Website]
Whether clay, fiber, glass or jewelry is your love, this is the Fair that makes heads turn and wallets empty. Not only can you ogle the incredible art, you can purchase it, watch talented performing artists and join a free or fee-based workshop or seven!
Not sure if bringing the kids is a good idea? Then enroll them in the child care available! Have trouble getting around, then rent an electric cart! There is free parking and free shuttle service [yes this is a popular event!] and there are picnic areas, a not so bad food tent [I would bring a picnic], two building cafeterias and an outdoor Garden Café on site. And lest you forget my recent blog entry for the Mountain Edge Resort...so make a weekend of it!

I was going to suggest if you had kids that Thomas the Tank Engine will be at the Conway Scenic Railroad this weekend, but maybe you don't need kids to go...just a love of trains and a good old fashioned story?!
And if you treat your kids with a visit to the famous Tank, then plan a treat for the adults afterward...head to the green Schouler Park and meander through the tents embracing the annual Art in the Park, featuring the art of the Valley's best fine artists [the 15th only].

Morning Everyone...heading out to Hampton Beach today - supposed to be 75-80 degrees, should be perfect! Be sure not to worry about those quarters, any local shop has half day and full day tokens to buy for the meters if you get there early enough! Enjoy yourselves, and most of all be safe and considerate on those NH roads! Talk soon...Kimberly

There's a thunderous sound come June here in NH. If you're on the roads any where in the state, especially around Father's Day, chances are you'll run into ten, 20 or maybe even hundreds of bikers riding up to Laconia, NH for one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the nation. If you want to experience something unique, ride on up to the 83rd Laconia Motorcycle Week happening this June 10th through June 18th. Having taken part in Motorcycle Week for many years, trust me, get in EARLY no matter what day you want to visit. And do NOT expect to have an itinerary. Plan the day to stay and meander and you will have a Harley-riffic time!
